Enteroviruses is a family of viruses responsible for many infections in children, although some adults may also be affected. These viruses mainly survive in the intestinal tract and then spread to other parts of the body, causing different illnesses. Once a person catches these viruses, he or she will start to display symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, mouth sores, skin rash, and body aches. Alaskans have enough time and resources to prepare for this year’s flu season, considering that there are now at least 13 different kinds of flu vaccines for them to choose from. KLDG 89.9 FM talked to Rosayln Singleton, staff physician at the Department of Health and Social Services, who demonstrated the usefulness of Flu Mist, Flu Block, and other vaccines to different people. She also said that the variety ensures that the state won’t run out of vaccines any time soon, which is reassuring considering Alaska’s history with the flu:

Twelve-year-old Carly Lindner is a prime example of how primary care clinics serve to alert patients of any imminent danger. Despite a clean bill of health, Lindner was seeing “blue dots” very often, a phenomenon her mother saw as abnormal.
